The team completed a total of 230k over fields, woodland, and the beach. A number of obstacles in the way included ‘Big Balls’, ‘the vast Shafted’, ‘Ramp it up’, the hilarious ‘Swept off your feet’, and everybody’s favourite ‘Travelator’ to finish made the course a tough one to combat! Everyone teamed together to help each other wade through freezing cold water, swing over obstacles on monkey bars and crawl through muddy puddles.
Deborah Anderson described taking part in Rough Runner: “Taking part in Rough Runner was one of the best and worst decisions I’ve ever made. Beatson Cancer Charity is a charity close to my heart and running the 15km to raise money for The Beatson was a no-brainer. First obstacle in – nice and easy, second one ‘Swept of your feet’ well I got swept off my feet and it was all downhill (and very wet) from there! ‘Through the wringer’ left me a little ashamed, I don’t think you’re supposed to get stuck in the middle of the tires are you…? But I gave it my best and I had fun. The last few kilometers were tough, but the feeling of accomplishment and relief when I saw the finish line made it all worthwhile. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat!”
Joyce Ross, fundraising manager at Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “We were honoured to be the chosen charity for AutoRek’s Rough Runner challenge. We are all really proud of the team for their incredible efforts and sheer determination and would like to express our sincere thanks to them all for this amazing achievement. Their generosity will have a direct impact on thousands of cancer patients and their families, both now and in the future, through the dedicated work of the charity and for that we are truly grateful.”
